Jeff Bezos, the creator of Amazon, stated in a recent interview that he intends to donate the vast majority of his estimated $124 billion in wealth over the course of his lifetime.
According to Bezos, he and his wife Lauren Sanchez are "developing the ability to be able to give away this money," as said to CNN.
Bezos said, "Yeah, I do," in response to a specific question from CNN about whether he intends to contribute the majority of his money, although he refrained from providing further details.
The Giving Pledge, a "commitment by the world's wealthiest individuals and families to dedicate the bulk of their wealth to charity causes," has not been signed by Bezos, unlike his ex-wife MacKenzie Scott.
Bezos has, however, made it clear that he supports the goal of the Giving Pledge in a recent interview. Bezos previously pledged $10 billion over ten years to the Bezos Earth Fund.
Bezos: "The hard thing is leveraging it." "Not simple. Amazon's rise was difficult. It required a lot of hard work, clever, hard-working teammates, and I'm finding—and I think Lauren is too—that charity is quite similar."
There are several ways you may, in my opinion, go about doing things ineffectively, he added. Therefore, careful consideration is required, as well as the presence of outstanding team members.
The interview, taped at their D.C. home, focused on the Bezos Courage and Civility Grant, a $100 million annual award for recipients to give to charities as they see right. Dolly Parton was this year's recipient.
"Everyone grins about Dolly, right? She's glowing "said Sánchez. "She wants to brighten others' lives. Dolly is the perfect person to receive this honor, and we know she'll achieve great things with it."
Parton reacted to the information, "Wow! You said $100 million, correct? You should always offer assistance when you can, and as I've frequently stated, I strive to put my money where my heart is. I'll try my best to use this money for good."
